From the Oddero family's cellars in La Morra, this is Barolo in its most classic form — a blend of four estate vineyards, aged three years in large Slavonian casks the way the region's old houses have always done it. Give it a few minutes in the glass and it unfolds: dried roses and blood orange first, then licorice, sweet tobacco, truffle and a lift of autumn spice. This is Nebbiolo showing off the perfume that made it famous.
The 2022 vintage was warm and dry, and that reads as balance rather than heft — full-bodied but poised, with fine, firm tannins and a bright seam of acidity that carries the finish. It's structured enough to cellar for a decade, yet generous enough to open tonight alongside braised beef or a truffle-laced pasta. Suckling scored it 94 and Dunnuck 93 — we just think it's one of the smartest ways into serious Barolo at this price.
